Hello every one !! Last weekend I organized and participated to the annual meeting of French Old School miniatures lovers. Lot of great moments and good gaming.
In fact, I haven't take pictures during the event ... So, thank goodness JB do the job and he just finish to write a first part of week end report, check here.

But I want to share a last thing with you. During the Oldhammer day 2017, a man named Gof came to us and gave us a small box of miniatures. Approximatively 30 Chaos models : Slaanesh Champions, Bestmen, Greater demon, etc.. For FREE!! He gave without expecting anything in return. An exemple to be followed by many Evilbayers !!

JB, Gof and me
To honored his gift, JB give a new life to these old Chaos miniatures. They are now in his collection of Rogue Trader models.  From my side, I decided to thank Gof with a painted Olivia, the last commemorative BOYL model.

Hi !! New mercenary creature for my growing Landsknecht Dwarves army. Here is an Half Giant, this nice chap is the result of an uncommun union of a female Giant and a "brave" Ogre... So, this guy is a big Ogre or a small Giant it depend, it's a matter of perspective :) David Stafford the owner Mr Saturday Mumbling Blog wrote another excelent background of Randolf, check the Wolfbane art Facebook group.

This model was sculpted by Alessio Cisbani from Wolfbane-art studio. This project is born on the Oldhammer facebook group and after 4 weeks of work, 50 pieces was cast in resin, multi-parts kit. 26€ shipping cost included, it's a pretty fair price!

I added some lndsknecht stuff to integrat this model in my Dwarves army, this is the last unit and I planned to take some army pictures next week.

Rogue Trader : Battle at the farm

Like some of you, I succumbed to t"The battle at the farm, fever". This New project in the far futur of Warhammer will occupy me during all the summer season.

All begin at the Oldhammer Day 2018 when a nice guy named Gil Richez gave me a fist full of RTB01 Marines. At the same moment, JB Garidel told me that Fogou Miniatures will lauch a KS for resin cast ruined farm for the RT scenario The battle at the farm... So, this is how the project is born.

Since some weeks, pictures of the Fogou sceneries started to appear on the web and you probably discovered like me the fantastic work of Curis on his blog. I think that ours works on the same scenario will produce a good synergy and give us all the mojo we need.

To finish 2 links with the realm of Zhu blog. First is the Zhu top 10 battle reports for this scenario (here) and the second concerning some propositions to balance the game (here). For my own game, I also planned to add some nice stuff to give a chance to the Ork patrol.

Crimson Fist Marines are in my mind since the the first time I flipped through the RT rulebook. The cover art is splendid and marked my mind for a long time. I really enjoy this project.

I need a pretty small force for the original scenario, I added some characters like the Flag army bearer and the body guard for Pedro Cantor. So, I completed my small force of plastic models with metal Marines : Sergents, Heavy weapon Marines and Characters.

First Squad :

Second Squad :

Third Squad :

Assembling RTB01 Marines:
I discovered how much it's difficult to give a nice posture to the RTB01 Marines. I adjusted the torso and the top of the legs to avoid the Gorillaz syndrome. I reduce the size of the foot of all the Marines to avoid the Tahiti Bob foot syndrome. I sculpted new hands to hold their Bolter. I sculpted new nails on the shoulder pads. I renforced the energetic armor with square plates. And to finish I created a greenstuff stamp for the fist icon on the second shoulder pad.

RT Marines are charectized by their Toughness 3, they're closer to the basic human soldiers than the following versions. Human soldier! Yes but they're particulary well equiped. So, that's why I added lot of bags around their belt. This is typilly the kind of detail easy to make witj small balls of green stuff.

Space Marines are weak without their armor, I never understand why some of them cross the battlefield without helmet... I want to keep safe my brand new soldier of the far futur. That the reason of all my Marines have a helmet : On head or at the belt.

Characters convertions :
I planned to creat a scenic base for all my Marines, inspired by the RT cover art. The main characters of the scene are never been produced by Citadel and some conversions are necessary.

Rogue Trader : The last stand.

Good morning! Today we talking about the RT cover art, as I writen in my last post this illustration marked my youth. Yep, After painted less then 20 marines in the first step of the BatF project, the idea of a scenic base for them slowly make is way in my mind.
This is a great challenge to realize these scene and I was very enthusistic during every steps of the creation process... I hope you enjoy the result as much as me :)

Cover art autopsy
Before starting, I had to understand the scene! I worked every day with the illustration (WD93 in fact!) on my work space to get all the subtleties of the scene. The last stand illustration is a mix between differents feeling like : Despair, suffering, self sacrifice and bravery. Of course, I don't pretend managed to retranscribe all these feelings in my work but I had them in mind during the cretion process.
The other important point is to capt all the characters of the scene, I describe them bellow. To finish, the last element who give all the depth of the illustration is the back scene : The dark sky, explosions and the shadows of huges incoming monstruosities.
A kind of futuristic WorldWar1? The Crimson Fist Marines interpreting the French soldiers in blue clothes and the Ork of Kev Adams as Deutch soldier. Interresting dont you think ?
By John Sibbick 1987

The scenic base
The first step was to find a clear box to contain the scene and define the dimensions of the base. To creat the mound, I piled 25mm mdf round bases to creat different levels. Then, I filled the gaps with milliput and shape the mound. The highest point of the scene is in the central place of the base. I hidden the back border bases of the Marines in sort of small craters to accentuate the WW1 battefield spirit.
My own interpretation of the last stand scene take place in the ruined farm ... So, I used some Fugou KS sceneries to define the corners of the base.

The charaters
Ok to make a good scene you need to capt the principal characters of the illustration and try to arrange them in the same situation. Here I created 6 characters with similarites from the original illustration.
Like the playable Marines, I added lot of bags around the belt of the wounded Soldiers to increase the "poilu" soldier spirit. Bandages and blood add some humanity and fragility to these soldiers, very representative of the first Space Marines (Only T3!)

Brother Bryan :
The central character of the scene is the Sergent, I volontary changed the side of these character to avoid the sculpt a Ork head in his fist. And because the Eagle on his shoulder pad is too crappy :) So, I keeped the original Marine Body, I slightly modified his posture. I added some greenstuf around his skinny thighs. And swap his face with a RTB01 Marine helmet.

Brother Rick :
I love this model, his posture is perfect to represent the bavery. He standing front of the maelstrom. The scar on his face suppose he's a veteran, enough to hold the banner of the unit. I scratched the original shoulder pads and I sculpted news closer to the illustration. I swapped the sword by a Bolter.

Brother Aly :
The original model is a Rhino Marine, I simply changed the posture of the arm with the Bolter, I added a helmet on his head and sculpted a bandage around his arm. The posture is inverted compared to the illustration but I think it nicely representative.

Brother Jess :
The original model of this dead Marine  is very closer from the illustration, I simply added a bandage around his wounded arm. Some bags around him. Maybe they contain amo or personal effects...

Brother John :
This Plastic Marine need some work to have a nice posture. I described it in my last post, I'm pretty proud of them because they have a very agressive posture.

Brother Nico :
Yep it's me :) I'm in a bad situation,I'm wounded, I'm coiled betweens two cratters and I understand I'm living my last battle. I throw my hemet on the ground to smoke a cigarette before the Reaper take me ... but I will selling my skin dearly!

This character is almost completly hidden on the illustration. I'm relatively free to use any models in the Citadel range. I decided to use a Christmas Marine, I simply added a bandage around his head and swapped his sword with a Bolter.

The Unknow Brother :
This Marines is a classic dead soldier no add on. OK the back pack and the helmet around him :)

The Back scene :
I photoshoped the back scene of the illustration. I'm not a great numerical artist so Mr Sibbick please excuse me for the graphic slaughter. You can download it and use it for you own picture (approx. 40x17cm).

Rogue Trader : Battle at the Farm - Ork troops

Hello Boyz! Summer time, holidays, vacation... and painting sessions! Yep, I keep the mojo and I continu to work on the project. Not only on the painting models but also on the scenario.

In the next post, I will develop How I want to play the Battle of the Farm scenario but for the moment some words to make you underderstand my work. I want to integrate some elements of the Worl War 1&2 in the Rynn invasion context . The principal reason is the Ork style of the late 80's. Clearly, lot of models  have the German WW1&2 style and I love it. So I want to go further and move "The Battle of the Farm" scenario on a battle field of the WW1 era. With trenches, craters, iconic troops, war technologies, etc...

The WW1 German storm trooper is the theme of my Ork force. This iconical trooper is identifiable with his naive camo paint on his helmet, his bags and his grenades. So I added these elements to my RTB02 Ork troopers, my favorit adds are the backpacks who are really fun to sculpt. Other conversion is the most scrappy RT Ork trooper in Fearsome Orkish stormtrooper. I hope you note the conversion of the BloodBowl Thrower in Nobz, Badass!!

Concerning the back banners of the Nobz, I kept the differents Ork symbols of the late 80's like the sword/skull of the Drop Legion and the teeth of the Kulo army. I integrate them in banners with colors inspired by the 3rd reich flag with a focus on the Iron Cross.

It's time to add some new troops to these poor Orks! Let me show you 3 Nobz of the Drop Legion, these posers come from a special unit named : The (Motha) Fokker Squadron! Leaded by a big fella nicknamed "The Red Nob" or sometimes "Manfrag Uruk Richthofen".
Ok so, you probably recoganized some of the best Ork sculpted by Kev Adams during the RT era. Bulky and full of nice details, they are very cool to paint. I continu to use some WW1 references to paint my Orks, here I use the Legendary Red Baron Manfred Von Richthofen and his Red Fokker Dr.I. The black and white highlight perfectly the red color. I added some yellow to clearly show the Bionik arms and the Kustom weaponz... Hey posers Nobz !!

Manfrag  is a mix of the Renegade Ork and a Nob with power armour.
I added some stuff to feel the gaps of the conversion and I renforced his skinny calves in the same style of the other Nobz. Like on the Crimson fist I increase the details on the armours with reinforcing plates or air vents on the shoulder pads. The picture below show the conversion process, befor I scratched the ChaosStar and swap it by the IronCross.

The big question ! How the Nobz store their back banner? To answer to this existential question, I created some Orkish inventions in green stuff!
Answer : Low ranked Nobz store their back banner manually in a small backpack provided for this purpose (pretty boring!). Or for high ranked Nobz, Fokker Squadron first of course! They use a banner mounted on a telescopik tube controlled by a automatik Ork device on their back. Painted in Yellow... Hey, posers Nobz !
Low ranked Nobz!
High ranked Nobz!

Make your own banners! Here I share the banners I created for my Drop Legion, enjoy :)

FURY! I upgraded an old WW1 German tank (Sturmpanzerwagen) concidered as the early panzer tank. A nice additionnal force for my growing Drop Legion army!

I bought a 28mm 3D printed tank on eBay and my objective was to transform it in a tank "in campaign". Troopers packs of the compagny and weathering are my friends! So rivets and small sculpted stuff too :)

Hello and happy Orktoberfest! This time to help the poor Orks of the Drop Legion to complete their mission, I painted  an heavy chunk of lead ... the funny RT Ork Dreadnought :)

This Dread follow the the Red Nob and his Fokker Squadron  on every battlefieds. The gretchins Inside is considered as the mascot of the squadron ... Sort of good luck charm. To maintain him in life, he is flanked by a Painboy and a Mekboy (his creators).

Classic RT Orks models used to make my own Painboy/Mekboy!

Hi! The last unit for the Drop Legion... I hope it's enough to beat these stupid Space Marines? Impossible for me to build an Ork brigade without  Runtherd and his tiny followers. I slightly converted the Mekboy of the Hop Spalt Field Gun, the whip is sufficient to refer to the Runt
Herd cast :)
Concerning the Grots... I'm pretty disapointed by the French postal servive... I'm waiting since 3 weeks for a parcel with 11 RT Gretchins Inside. The parcel is stuck at the Roissy Airport, it smell the custom tax! So, I use WHFB Gobbos for the moment.
Fortunatly, I keep the Mojo and I find the inspiration to create some new troops... The Fearsome Snot-Stick-Grenades, rules coming soon!
Next step for the project... The battlefield and the famous ruined farm. I want to take my time, find some inspiration and technics to build a pertinent gaming board. So, I will switch with a new project for the next weeks... Pictures coming soon :)

Hi ! I'm sorry for the lack of updating.... I'm working hard on a very exiting wargame project with a short deadline... So, no time for blogging.
But I promess you a lot of explanations and pictures in the next weeks.

... For the moment, two elements to describe the background : A sound track and an art work, enjoy !

The Road Warrior : Mad Max 2

Since many years, I wished to wargaming “the Road Warrior”, the best episode of the Mad Max Trilogy imo … So, the Gaslands Osprey rule is arrived in October in my wargaming club and everything happened so fast at that point. I will write up two articles about this project : First article dedicated to the movie and my modelling works on the vehicles. Second article concerning How to wargaming the final chase with the tanker, the scenario, the gaming board and the battle report.
Opening chase of the movie, when Max meet Wez!

Why The Road Warrior movie is so great!?
Filled with gripping, high-speed car chases and positively medieval weaponry, this movie forever changed post-apocalyptic films with its brutal vision of a sadistic and hopeless future. Like the custom 70’s muscles cars showed in this movie… the gritty, sadomasochistic “scrapyard leather chic” feel of the film was revolutionary at the time and has influenced almost every post-apocalypse film since.
This second opus is at odds with the last episode. In Mad Max (1), amongst the highway chaos, we still got glimpses of ordinary people going about their ordinary lives. In Mad Max 2, the world has really ended. The time line advanced and the film show the world after the Third World War. A decadent world where the rules and the society disappeared.
Max is the archetypal loner who wandering the wasteland, haunted by his tragic past and unable to see any possible future. He lives in the moment, his only concerns minute to minute survival and the search for supplies of gasoline to keep his ex-police Interceptor running.

The Lord Humungus rules the Wasteland!

Modelling and painting the Road Warrior cars

I converted some Hotwheels cars to obtain vehicles closely as possible to the movie cars. I accentuate the custom engine style to add a touch of Gaslands spirit.  I used mostly 40K bits, plasticard and green stuff. I was very absorbed during the custom process and I admit ended some modelling sessions at 02:00 am… Captivated by this modelling work, probably the most enjoyable hobby experience I lived since few years.
Bikes come from the Citadel Dark future range. For the Gyrocopter, I converted a Trike from the Ramshackleminiatures range . On this website you can find many bits to convert your cars, particulary for the crewmen.
The painting process start by the classic layering method and finish by the very important weathering effects. I Rusted, scratched and dusted the cars with pigments, glacis and blister foam stamp.

Seven Sisters Petroleum is the main oil supplier in the Mad Max movies, it was based off the real life group of oil companies that existed to the 1940s to the 1970s which comprised of BP, Gulf Oil, Chevron, Texaco, Shell, Exxon and Mobil.
The war in the Middle East between Saudi Arabia and Iran left the oil fields ablaze which started the economical collapse due to lack of oil across the globe. 7 Sisters Petroleum was not able to fulfill their contracts with governments which cause major oil shortages and escalation of chaos and violence among the population across the world.

The Road warrior event!

After Two months of modelling and painting works, I finally wargaming the last scene of the Road Warrior movie. I worked hard on the project but you can trust me, I find lot of satisfaction at every stage of the development.

It will be a crime to play this game as the classic way, quickly or without before/after meeting moments. So, I organised and planned early in the process a special “Road Warrior night event” at my local wargame club to share and wargaming my passion for the movie. I focused on Dead Line and I organised my time to paint the models, create the gaming table, the scenario and prepared some training rules sessions with my usual gaming friends.

To increase the immersion in the Mad Max world and help my partners to reach my enthusiam for the movie. I organised the viewing of the movie on huge screen at the club before the game. Armschairs, sofas, beers, popcorn and pizzas… Difficult to do better for a gaming introduction don’t you think?

Viewing the Road Warrior before wargaming it! What's better?

I used the Gaslands rules to running this game but the principal element of this scenario is the way to play with the board of the table game. I was very inspirited by “Thunder Road (Le Survivant)” games from the MB range of the 80’s.  The table game consists of three pieces (Boards) of highway and when the Truck exits the front piece of highway, the back piece is placed in front (after dumping all the wrecks and slowpokes off of it). By this simple way, you obtain an endless highway, essential to play a chase in the wasteland.

The opposing forces are built to be closer of the movie. The Tanker Truck have additional hull points, a ram and some Molotov cocktails. The Gyrocopter drop lot of good things on the opponent cars. And the Humungus Truck have several Nitro Boost. The Marauders crew can jump on the Tanker to remove his Hull points.  No more specials  rules to facilitate the gameplay.

Initial set up

The chase begin!

When the Truck exits the front board of highway, the back piece is placed in front

The Gyrocopter and the Lone Wolf are reduce to wrecks, it's all on you Max!

Humungus used his Nitro ammo to make a collision with the truck... Bad idea for him!

The Tanker Truck fnally wiped out after many attacks of the Marauders!
Afterwords :
That was an unforgettable experience, due to the favourable context developed around the event. Painted models, gaming table, easy rules and viewing the movie. All my gaming partners and me (the first) loved every moments of the “Road Warrior night event”. We pushed the wargaming experience over ours classic limits.
I planned to organised a "Road Warrior tour" to share the game with other friends. Maybe in you local wargaming club soon!
Some others “Wargaming night events” will be organised in my club for sure this year. Plenty of movies themes can be raised : Alien, Star wars, LotR, Starship Trooper, etc…

I start the new year with a skirmish warband of Genestealer cultist ... without intention of build a whole army. Mix of old and new Citadel models and few Broodbrothers from Macrocosm miniatures. Still an Hybrid Ogryn to paint and a coven Limo.
I'm slowly seduced by a chaos alliance... I try to resist but it's not an easy task!

Nothing is free in life! With the exception of the Limousines for your Genestealer Cult. You can equip your Coven by up to 3 Limo for no point cost... Old armies lists charms!
Unfortunatly,  Citadel miniatures never provided its range of this type of vehicle. Only one advice to help you : "You can use 1/43 die cast models..."
If you have some difficulties to find these die cast vehicles, you can check the web site of Wargame Exclusive. They purpose a sumptuous Armored Coven Limo on Antigrav. Very inspired by the illustration in the old army list, what more could you ask for?

Hi! Last post for my infected warband. An uncommun fella to add support the coven, the Hybrid Ogryn! This model was sketched by the talented Mr Starday's Mumblings and was sculpted by the Great Bob Olley. It seems to be a private commission, other models was created for the occasion and you can find pictures and comments about that on the JB Blog!

This is the moment for the familly picture! I was well inspîred by this famous illustration of the 80's. Games Workshop used it many times, as cover for WD 114, as cover for the Space Hulk campaign book, and others... I love the way of the Magus give the direction to his cultists with his hand, he release his infected dogs... Emblematic!

New project around one of the most popular board game of the galaxy, the timeless Space Hulk! Like Blood Bowl, Space Hulk is constantly re edited for the delight of their fans. And there is no doubt about of the quality of the models and the materials level up at every new edition.
But I remain true to my first love, the first edition. I remember the advertising in the White Dwarf magazine… very effective marketing in deed! So I researched in my WD collection all these elements who are etched on my memories.  Articles, pictures, models, vignettes and sketches.

I will posted a serie of articles about my project around this game, for the moment ... here come the White Dwarf pictures ! Caution! This blog post can be very contagious… pun Inside!

The early Space Hulk 3D, before HirstArt molding or the printed 3D technologies. I love these oblique walls, probably inspired by the design of the tiles. These gaming tables are show at the Gamesdays 90, 91 and 92. They use 40x40mm square bases to build the grid. Could you see how the kids are absorbed by the games!

Next post will be dedicated to the Genestealers faction!

Only 3 references compose the metal collection of the first generation of Genestealers. Theses metal models are somptuous especially the models with the slotta arms. Unfortunaltely, they are difficult to find on the EU collection market. Generally supplanted by the same models with the butt arms. It is suspected the arms were changed as the slotta arms used to break off the tab very easily in use. Note that an unreleased stealer was seen in the White Dwarf magazine and the Space Hulk advertisings.

I collected 15 of these metal models but only two of them have the slotta arms, so I converted the others and I swapped the butt arms by the plastics arms from the sprues of the original box. I slightly changed the orientation of the thumb to accentuate the claw effect as the metal slatta arms.

WHFB Campaign : L'Empire en Flammes

I prepare the next meeting of the French OldSchool Lovers at the Oldhammer Day in May 2019. So, my current Space Hulk project is planned to be presented during this event but I planned to run a WHFB campaign too. I will manage this campaign as GM and I share today some stuff I produce for It.

I named this campaign “L’Empire en flammes” and I hope that remind some good things for the RP Gamers who read this words. I created it with all the things I cumulated during the several campaigns I managed in clubs. I talking about the rules and models of course but I talking about management experience I acquire too! This campaign involve 2 groups of 3 players during 2 days. I used the Mighty Empires core rules (2nded) with additions and some transformations. And we play our games with WHFB 3rded rules.

This campaign take place in the Empire territory during an invasion leaded by an Alliance of Chaotic Lords, they are opposed to the union of the last Defenders of the Empire. This incursion was stopped by the cold winter and the snow of the mountain passes. Only some territories separate the belligerents.  Now, the assumption of the spring coming and every Warlords prepare to lead their army for the next season of battle!

I was very inspired by the map of the Empire. I applied an hexagons filter on it to obtain this 3D map. I sculpted some markers for the Equinox spells and I copied some Mighty Empires models with Bluestuff molds. I’m always pleased to discover how the players love to play with these markers, particulary when they produce money to increase their troops for the next battle J I swapped the original Mighty Empire Dragon by a Man O War Hight Elves Dragon. I found it on ebay without wings to buy it cheaper. But It obliged me to sculpt it new wings.

The initial situation

A last word (advise) for peoples who want to run a campaign. In my opinion, there is nothing sadder than a campaign without end. The most important thing for a good campaign is to finish it with a realistic deadline. No matter how it finish, the campaign must finish! And this is the job of the GM!
See you later for the battle report of the campaign!
